Upcoming safety tips & how I used to go eye-makeup-free

Hey guys πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

So, I have no eye-makeup on here and I’m not sure if you can tell but one of my eye lids is more swollen than the other. That’s from my blepharitis as I was on holiday here and didn’t have my heat mask with me πŸ™ˆ

I will be posting some safety tips on using eye makeup when you have Dry Eyes. There are certain things that you can do, or avoid, to help control Dry Eye symptoms. This is what I have learned over the past 5 years – how to wear makeup without aggravating my eyes.

In the past, I did go through a stage of not wearing ANY eye makeup for around 1-2 years – unless it was a special occasion. I must say this really did help improve my dry eye symptoms as no makeup means cleaner eyes and less makeup managing to get into the eyes. Wearing no eye-makeup means I don’t have to put eye drops or eye ointments in as regularly as when I choose to wear eye makeup.

Modelling & Dry Eyes

19

The main thing that upset me about having severe Dry Eyes is that I had to stop modelling.

It was always my dream to do fashion modelling, so when I got signed to an agency I was so happy. I modeled from the age of 18 – 24 and had to stop once finding out about my Dry Eyes. This is because my eyes became very sensitive to light.

While I was modelling, I unknowingly had Dry Eyes (unsure what caused this for definite) and continued to model with Dry Eyes i.e. using full eye makeup, constant flashing lights and no use of drops or ointments which all contributes to worsening Dry Eyes.Β  All of these things made my eyes incredibly dry and it became too much to handle.

One day when I got home, after a full day of shooting, I got into bed and covered my eyes with my bed sheets and said to my mom – something isn’t right. My eyes hurt, my head hurts, I didn’t know what was happening.

The doctors didn’t recognise I had Dry Eyes and said I needed a head scan in case I had a blood clot……. When in reality, all I needed, was eye drops. I was told by a specialist, if my Dry Eyes were recognised early on, I may not now, have permanent Dry Eyes.

Even though now my eyes have improved a lot with the help of punctal plugs, eye drops and lubricant, I’m not sure if I would risk going back into modeling…

My First Makeup Video

Hello everyone! Happy to show you my very first makeup video πŸ’„

This is just a quick makeup tutorial of my current makeup routine for work. It’s simple and quick and this eye makeup routine only involves eyeliner flicks at the END of the eyes.

I haven’t applied any makeup directly on my eyelid. When applying foundation or concealer I use excess makeup left on the brush and apply above the eyelid line.

This is my first makeup video and I haven’t done tutorials before, please bare with me and feel free to let me know any tips you have!

I have also been testing out new hypoallergenic makeup products so that I can start using more eye makeup (hopefully) in the week too.

Once I’ve tested out the new eye shadows and mascaras, I will share the makeup look using the products that didn’t irritate my dry eyes ❀️

I have uploaded this onto my Youtube Channel – Please subscribe and follow as I will be sharing more tutorials and tips for Dry Eyes πŸ™‚ See link below:

Ophthalmologist part 3 – The Schirmer’s Test

Dr Scott also tested how many tears I produce by doing the Schirmer’s test. This is where they insert paper strips to the lower lid for 5 minutes to determine whether your eyes produce enough tears…

My tear production was very bad. I was told that I do not produce enough tears and the tears that I do produce evaporate too quickly. This finally proved I had severe dry eyes – which I was trying to tell the doctors on the NHS πŸ™„
Dr Scott immediately suggested inserting punctual plugs in my eyes – which an NHS doctor said I was “too young” for. Thank God I met this Ophthalmologist as Punctal Plugs literally changed my life.

dryeyes2Future posts to follow on what punctual plugs are, how many I had inserted to begin with and how many I have now*<<<<

OPHTHALMOLOGIST PART 2 – Vitamin Deficiency

Dr Professor Scott took blood tests to test me for arthritis (I was told dry eyes can be linked to arthritis). He also checked my vitamin D levels as I was also told that a lack of vitamin D can cause or worsen dry eyes.

My blood test results showed that I didn’t have arthritis but I did have a Vitamin D deficiency. Therefore, I was told to start taking Vitamin D3 tablets which would help as they were very strong. I have been taking these tablets ever since:Β vitamind

Ophthalmologist Part 1 – Eye Ointments

Dr Professor Scott (UK Ophthalmologist) literally changed my life and I cannot thank him enough.

I remember when I first walked into his office wearing black lens sunglasses. I was unemployed, depressed and rarely wanted to leave the house. I felt there was no hope for my eyes after speaking to my GP and general doctors in mainstream hospitals. However, when seeing Dr Scott he confirmed that since the lubricating ointment (Lacrilube) he tested me on, had such an amazing effect on my eyes, that it would be beneficial for me to start using Lacrilube every night continuously.

So I have been using eye ointments every night before bed ever since, for 4 years.

He also urged me to use ointments in the day time too because eye drops do not last long enough in my eyes as they get rid of tears too quickly… πŸ™ˆ

These are just my experiences of what has worked for me. Feel free to share what has worked for you by commenting below πŸ™‚
